Astrid Jorgensen was born in Hamilton, New Zealand before making the decision to emigrate to Brisbane, Australia in 1998. Astrid formerly worked as a high school music teacher.
In 2011, Astrid formed a band named Astrid & the Asteroids who would go on to win the Billy Thorpe Scholarship at the 2012 Queensland Music Awards before going on to disband in 2014.
Astrid is a vocalist, conductor and composer who founded Pub Choir in 2017. Pub Choir would go on to gain international recognition in November 2017 when their cover of The Cranberriesâ âZombieâ went viral. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Astrid would alter Pub Choir and make it become Couch Choir so as to adhere by government imposed safety restrictions.
In 2018, Astrid was the resident choral arranger and conductor for Neil Finnâs âOut of Silenceâ show. In 2019, Astrid was a featured guest in Tim Rogersâ Liquid Nights in Bohemia Heights shows.
In 2021, Astrid acted as a consultant executive producer for the television special Australia’s Biggest Singalong!, which was broadcast live on SBS from Sydney Town Hall.
Astridâs work has seen her gain recognition from a vast network of angles with her being awarded the 2019 Queensland Community Foundation Emerging Philanthropist of the Year award, being nominated for the 2020 Queensland Young Australian of The Year award, named as one of the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians by the Asian-Australian Leadership Summit in 2021 and awarded a Medal of Order of Australia also known as an OAM in King Charles IIIâs annual birthday honors list.
