Mel Day is a singer who reached the Semi-Finals of Series 15 of Britain’s Got Talent. He was aged 77 at the time of his audition, and lived in Birmingham, however originated from Grenada.
In his audition, Day performed ‘Land of 1000 Dances’ by Wilson Pickett, and encouraged both the judges and the live studio audience to join in with his performance. After his performance Amanda remarked ‘You’ve got such a naughty sparkle about you’, with David adding ‘There was real talent and soul, I mean you know it wasn’t karaoke it was you’.
Day opened the first Semi-Final of the Series. In his Semi-Final performance he performed a medley of songs which included ‘Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag, Pt 1’ by James Brown, ‘I Feel Good’ by James Brown, & ‘Soul Man’ by Sam & Dave as several backing dancers accompanied his performance. Alesha remarked ‘That was the best show opener ever, you looked like you were having the time of your life’, with Simon adding ‘I think the Final would be amazing with you in it’.
